Quickest Update Ever

Posted by Angie at 3:32 PM 1 comments
Poor little blog. We reach the most exciting part of our adoption journey and the posts disappear. The short story is that was are so happy. We made it through our immigration appointment in Taiwan, customs in the US, and arrived home late Tuesday with the most perfect little addition to our family. Jet lag is terrible (we don't really have jet lag, just Levi-lag who is keeping us up all night). We miss Taiwan terribly. More soon, hopefully!!!!

So Thankful

Posted by Angie at 9:49 AM 5 comments
We have SO much to be thankful for this year.

We are thankful to be seeing so many wonderful and interesting things in Taiwan.

We are thankful that we are eating such delicious food.

We are thankful that our AIT appointment went REALLY well and that we are cleared to fly home next week.

We are thankful that we did meet Levi's first mother.   Thankful that we got to thank her for the most precious gift she has given to us and thankful that we have pictures and some conversations we can share with Levi.  We are thankful that she put her fingerprint on our "Leaves of Love" tree for Levi's room.

We are thankful for the fantastic people at His Hands who have shown us so much love.

And we are thankful that this year, this wonderful year, we get to spend Thanksgiving with our son.

Much love,
Blessed Mama

Last post before Parenthood!

Posted by Angie at 8:55 AM 6 comments
Since the last post, We made it through the loooong 16 hour flight to Hong Kong. I got some sleep on the flight, but not much. I watched 3 movies (including Brave and What to
Expect when you're Expecting and cried in both), 1 snack, 2 dinners
(both vegan, one a good Indian dish, one terrible, haha) and lots of
water. The husband was adventurous and ate fish dishes on the plane!

Once in Hong Kong, we made it through another security checkpoints and to the last gate for this part of the journey. While there, Blessed Papa tested out a translation app, and I think half the terminal turned to stare at us! We were already attracting attention
as the only Americans there, so that just sealed the deal. He thought
it was hilarious. I suppose I will have to get used to the attention...I'm sure we will get even more looks when we have Levi!

The flight to Kaohsiung was short and easy. We cleared customs, got all our bags, exchanged money, and met up with the fantastic volunteer, Ashleigh, who would be taking us to His Hands! It was after midnight so we especially appreciated the ride, since it kept her up so late.

We arrived at His Hands and had a quick tour. We are staying in the basement in the "parents room" and it is fantastic!! Bed, couch, crib, play area. They even bought us food...we have a lot of bananas to eat before they go bad ;-)

That night, we took showers and the husband went to bed. I was far too wired, so I unpacked some and organized. I did sleep a little...but not nearly enough ;-) I don't feel it yet, but I am sure I will sooner or later!!

In about one hour we will hold our son for the first time. I am a mix of excitement and nerves, but mostly excitement!!!! After the years of prayer, piles of paperwork, and months of waiting, this is it. Praise God!

Much love,
Blessed Mama

When do we leave?

Posted by Angie at 1:19 PM 3 comments
Hi all!

Blessed Mama here...blogging from the Chicago airport! Clearly, the last 24 hours have been a bit of a whirlwind. When we received news of our final decree yesterday, we called our adoption travel agent, who informed us that he saw some openings and could get us on flights...the next day!

So we packed, tied up loose ends at work, texted, called, and e-mailed family. Levi's godparents came by with dinner and helped us pack and clean. Much later than expected (ahem...midnight) we finally were ready to drive to Blessed Papa's parents' house with the cat, the dog, 4 bags to check, 2 backpacks, and 2 diaper bags!

This morning we successfully completed the first leg of the journey. We woke up and had a prayer with my husband's whole family. My mother-in-law and future sister-in-law both took off work just to ride with us to the airport and be with us. It was the perfect start to what will be our biggest adventure!

We had a few problems at check-in...and eventually discovered the reason was because we didn't have a baby with us. They eventually asked my husband, "where is your child?" To which he later told me he wanted to say, "Gasp!! Where is he? I thought he was with you." Luckily he didn't, hehe, and we explained our situation...that on the way HOME we would have a darling little boy!!!

We arrived in Chicago and had to go to the international terminal and try to get Blessed Papa a boarding pass there. Walk up to the check in desk...and it has a huuuuge line. We began to settle ourselves in for a long wait when the manager came up, noticing that we didn't have any bags to check, and took us right to a desk! "Do you have seats together?" he asked without prompting. Unfortunately, we didn't. A few keystrokes later, Blessed Papa had a boarding pass, we had seats together for the 16 hour flight, and we were done! We haven't been on the plane yet...but so far...we recommend Cathay Pacific!

This is the first minute I have had to sit and record my thoughts, so bear with me. We feel so blessed. Honestly and truly, as hard as the wait was, it is already melting away. We are in awe of how it is all coming together! We will meet Levi Saturday morning in Taiwan, which is Friday night eastern time. I'm not sure how the Internet is going to be, but we hope to keep you posted!

Much love,
Blessed Mama

Dear Levi,

Last night, when you went to sleep, in the eyes of the law you were an orphan. You did not have a mommy or a daddy.  You slept in a room with many other babies, and yet, you were alone.  My heart is bursting and singing this morning, like it has been ever since we first saw your little picture in May.  Darling baby boy, we are overflowing with joy today and so happy to tell you that since we received our Final Decree today, you are officially our son.  And we will love you forever.

You will never have to wonder if anyone loves you.  You will never have to go to sleep without a kiss and a hug.  You will never wonder if you are special.  You will never have to cry alone.  You will never have your birthday be forgotten.  You are our son.  And we will love you forever.

We have waited for this moment for years, when God first whispered to us that our first child would be born in our hearts, not our home.  We have prayed for you, along with our families, our friends, our church, and even with strangers we have never met.  Oh, how we have loved you.  You are our child.  And we will love you forever.

You were dealt a hard start in this world.  You have a mother in Taiwan who loves you, and a mommy and daddy in America who love you so much.  She is just as much a part of our family now as you are.  We will all love you, our darling boy, forever.

We can't wait to fly to Taiwan and scoop you into our arms.  Your first steps and first words will be here before we know it.  One day, Daddy is going to teach you how to throw a baseball.  One day, you and Mommy are going to sit on a couch sounding our words and learning how to read.  We are going to run, laugh, giggle, and play.  Our house will be loud.  Our kitchen will be messy.  Dasher will cover you in puppy dog kisses.  We will love you forever.

We will tell you all about how Jesus loves you.  We will tell you all about your life in Taiwan.  We will tell you how Mommy and Daddy are adopted too, into God's family.  And just like our Heavenly Father loves us all, we will love you forever.

We will never weary of kissing you, cuddling you, dancing around the kitchen with you.  We will never tire of singing loudly with you, making messes and memories.  You are our child, our first beloved child.  We will love you forever.

To say that we already love you would be a huge understatement.  Our love cannot be put into words.  As of today, you are legally a part of our family, forever.  And we can say is that we will love you FOREVER.

Much love,
your Mama and Papa

He's a Cutie!

The car seat is installed.
(actually, my husband took that car, complete with car seat, to a bachelor party this weekend, hehe)

The booster seat is strapped into a dining room chair.
(and I love it!  this is what we got, for those of you adopting older babies)

Diapers and wipes are by the changing table.
(but not too many, we still aren't sure on the size)

Bottles are sanitized and stored in the cabinet.
(that took some time)

Baby clothes are washed in baby detergent.
(and smell so wonderful)

His pictures are all over our home.
(and I already have in my mind where we will hang our Taiwan pictures)

And we are feeling pretty ready these days!
(and a semi-recent picture of us, for those of you who complain we don't put up enough)

Thank you for the kind words of encouragement and bible verses you have been leaving in the comments.  I read every word.  Today marks 40+ days of waiting...3 times the average.  This weekend, we got a little "unofficial" good news that our wait for the final decree should be over soon.  Praying that the "unofficial" becomes "official" soon.

Isaiah 40:31
But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

Much love,
Blessed Mama

P.S.  Another adoptive mama is just beginning her journey and having an iPad fundraiser!  Here is the link!

October Swap

Posted by Angie at 7:00 AM 1 comments
Friends for Adoption is a "buddy system" that links adopting families together so that they can encourage each other through the twists and turns of the process.  Each month, you and your Friend send and receive encouragements (with a $15.00 limit) in the mail.  This post is about my gift to Brooke.  Even though my husband and I are saving up for our own adoption, we believe we should support others financially, with prayer, and with encouragement as we are able.  Find out more about Friends for Adoption, including how to sign up, here

When we got our first decree, I thought we were leaving soon.  Like, days soon.  I certainly thought we would be in Taiwan for Halloween, which was over a month away.  I went shopping for this gift (and November's gift) during the frenzied rush to pack and prepare for Taiwan.  And now...many many days later, we still sit here, in our comfy home, experiencing a fall season we thought we would miss, still waiting on "the e-mail" to come.  Back in September, I feel in love with the adorableness of this sleeper and couldn't help myself.  I could just imagine the little hat on Addie blonde wispy hair!

 And doesn't Addie look cute?

I'm keeping the Halloween outfit I bought Levi, and am calling it a "fall" outfit now.  It's too cute not to put on his little body.

And do you want to see what Brooke got me?  Check out her blog!

Much love,
Blessed Mama
