First Decree!

Posted by Angie at 9:07 AM
Today, I am interrupting the scheduled nursery post...

...to share...

...that Wednesday night we received our first decree!

Praise be to God!

The first decree means that the judge has sifted through our mountains of paperwork, Levi's mountains of paperwork, and decided that my husband and I will be Levi's parents!

WOO HOO!
Levi, looking all grown up on the morning we received the first decree
As you can imagine, when we got the e-mail late Wednesday, we were overjoyed and overwhelmed.

What's next?  After an undetermined "waiting" period, we receive a final decree.  This makes the judge's first decree legal and binding forever.  That final decree will be submitted to the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), which will issue us a visa appointment.  We will travel to Taiwan for that appointment.  AH!  The short story is that most families travel to Taiwan about 1 month after the first decree.

What can you do?  Pray that things will continue to move quickly and smoothly.  Specifically, we are submitting a "waiver" from that would allow us to get the final decree next week.  Some judges will accept a waiver, some will not.  Please pray that our judge will accept ours so we can get a final decree soon!  We are coming baby boy!!

Much love,
Blessed Mama

Haha, oh Katie, I have the craziest, longest packing list ever. My husband thinks our "not going to Taiwan" piles are smaller than our "to Taiwan" piles in our house, haha!

I found your blog more than a year ago when I signed up for an Adopting from Taiwan list serve (of which I have been a silent member since my first introduction post), and I followed you for a while, but with one and then quickly two babies things got pretty busy -- and then my old computer finally gave up the ghost and I lost the bookmark to your page. I still remembered your family, though, and yesterday I decided to see if I could find your blog again with a little help from Google, so I typed in "papa bear adopt taiwan" and was so pleased it worked -- and to see the picture of your beautiful little boy! Looks like I found your blog just in time.

I was also excited to see that you are adopting through His Hands. They are wonderful. We are an almost-His Hands family. We live in Kaohsiung and were looking to adopt at some future point, but when we heard of a baby at church and everything seemed to come together we decided that God wanted it to be now. Custody of our son was going to be signed over to His Hands and the paperwork was in place, so though it was an independent adoption, they helped us figure it out since everything is in Chinese and ours isn't quite up to par.

If you need to know anything about Taiwan for your packing lists or need anything while you're here -- even just a living room with wi-fi (though we're in the middle of the city and His Hands is a ways out), let me know -- though I am sure the people at His Hands have got you covered.

I also have a blog -- http://mdivgirl-windblows.blogspot.tw/ -- but I don't have much time to post with two babies under 2 so there's not too much on it.
