Care Package #2

Posted by Angie at 7:00 AM 1 comments
The day I finally blogged about our first care package, I put our second one in the mail!  My mom helped out with the last one, so for this one, we had the rest of the family each pick out something small and special for Levi.  Some items (like a hat from my brother) we are saving for when we travel, but others we put in the box.  Are you ready to see what went to Taiwan?

Recognize the book from Friends for Adoption?  Thank you Brooke!
Our cat Haley wanted to go to Taiwan too.
Getting everything all bundled up for the box.
Candy for the staff and nannies who are so "sweet" to our son.
Little outfits from different family members, with tags telling why they are special or who the outfit is from.
Haley again, who REALLY wants to go to Taiwan!
We loved putting this small box together, but what we love even more...the pictures!
Listening to our voices for the 2nd time (first was on skype)!
Thank you Brooke for the book!
A hat from grandpa
The hearts I tied to all the gifts!
The nannies opening the box in the background.
Candy didn't melt!
And last...but not least...our new favorite picture!!!!

And a sweet message too.  We are SO blessed!

Your package arrived but I received the wrong box at first. The post office made a mistake and we received a box of craft supplies that belonged to someone else. I returned the craft supplies and in turn they gave me your box!!!  The nannies LOVE LOVE LOVE the candies and I translated your sweet hearts and we all 'ooohed and awwwed'. Thanks so much for your thoughtfulness and generosity. The nannies really love to see the adoptive parent's love for their babies.

Much love,
Blessed Mama

Pictures and Videos

Goodness gracious, we are still CELEBRATING that our court date went well!!!  We got some more details (that I won't be sharing here, unfortunately), but let me just say...we really needed your prayers and they worked!

We are also celebrating that the Hatcher sisters are back in Taiwan...which means...more pictures and videos!  I have so many to share...here are just a few :-)

Love that face!
He's getting SO big!

And making so many funny expressions!
A video of our "wiggle worm."  My favorite part is listening to the nanny in the background singing his name.  He is so loved and that makes the wait easier.

And a video of Levi cuddling with a blanket...melt my heart!

Happy Friday all!

Much love,
Blessed Mama

Oooohhh Baby

Gonna Get to You

Giirrl Boooooy!

Anyone recognize this song?  It's a blast to the past..."Step by Step," by New Kids On The Block.  If you don't remember it, here is the rather fabulous music video.

Ahhh, hilarious.  Anyhoo, this is all appropriate because we HAD A GREAT COURT DATE AND ARE DANCING OVER HERE!  I still need to work on my patience, I think, before throwing up posts announcing our lack of news ;-) Thank you for all the prayers, we really needed them.  We had a tough judge, but made it through!!!  We are thrilled.

What's next?

Well, we wait for a First Decree from the judge.  This often comes 6-8 weeks after a court date, after a home study is filled out on Levi in Taiwan.  Please pray with is that it comes SO much sooner than that!  The First Decree is where the judge formally appoints us as Levi's new parents.

In case you are curious, the First Decree is followed by a Final Decree, in ten days, in which we become Levi's parents legally and forever.  Then, His Hands applies for Levi's passport and adoption physical.  Once they receive them, they send the Taiwanese passport, adoption physical, first decree, and final decree to the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT).  We then wait for AIT to assign us an appointment...and when they do, we travel for that appointment!  As you can see, after the First Decree things have the potential to move pretty quickly.  So please join us in praising God for the success we have had so far...and praying for that First Decree!

Much love,
Blessed Mama

No updates yet on our court appointment!  Thank y'all for all the prayers.

In the meantime, a friend just let me know about an online adoption auction for a family who travels next month to pick up their little girl!  Isn't she precious?  She's in China.

There are some pretty cute items, especially Chinese/Korean goodies, so check it out and leave some love.

As for our court date...I'll keep you posted ;-)

Blessed Mama

Court Date Tonight/Tomorrow!

Posted by Angie at 7:00 AM 5 comments
Tonight's an important night.

Tonight it will be July 25th in Taiwan and a judge will hear our adoption case.

Our Taiwanese Power of Attorney (probably His Hands' administrative assistant Rae Fang) will go to court on our behalf.  Levi's biological mother (and possibly her family) will also be in attendance.  This is such an important step for finalizing our adoption of Levi.

What can you do?  Please pray with us.  We would appreciate prayers at any time today (perhaps that the judge is getting a good night's sleep so he/she will be in a good mood tomorrow), but we especially need prayers tonight!  Taiwan is 12 hours ahead of the eastern time zone, so at 8 pm tonight it will be 8 am in Taiwan, and so forth.  So, by the time you wake up tomorrow, our court date will actually already be over!

Here are some specific prayer requests that we have in our hearts:

1)  That God will grant us favor with the judge
2)  That all the paperwork will arrive in court and be "in order"
3)  That every person expected to be in attendance will be there (and on time!)
4)  That God will give comfort and reassurance to Levi's birth mother and family that he will be deeply loved and cared for, and she will want to meet us and maintain contact with us in the years to come

Thank you all!

Much love,
Blessed Mama

February Date

Posted by Angie at 8:44 AM 1 comments
Adoption involves a lot of waiting!  To help pass the time, I planned 12 dates for my husband and I.  Some are goofy, some are sweet, all are inexpensive (many are free).  So far we have enjoyed our adventures, in our August date, September date, October date, November date, December date, and January Date, and March Date.

Oh my goodness, I am so behind in sharing these!  Here's February's catch-up.

For February, I planned something a little more romantic, inspired by this date from the Love Actually blog.  Here is the date card.
Our dog's name is Dasher, so if you do this date you will probably want to tweak the name to be something a bit more personal for you!

First up was dinner.  Since our garden has been producing more zucchini than we know what to do with, we have been trying to incorporate it into every meal. Zucchini fries (yum), zucchini chips (soggy), zucchini bread (bitter, what did I do wrong?), zucchini muffins (much better, I added chocolate chips), zucchini in our fried rice recipe (surprisingly good).  So, it should come as no surprise that we made a pasta recipe with zucchini in it!  And of course...I managed to take no pictures of the evening.  So just imagine a picture here of angel hair pasta with bright green bits of zucchini and freshly shredded Parmesan cheese...it was delicious.

Unfortunately, The Italian Job was no longer on Instant Netflix, so we chose Midnight in Paris instead.  We enjoyed it!

So that was our February Date!  More updates on the rest soon!

Much love,
Blessed Mama

Please join us in praying for our first court appointment, coming up on July 25th!  THIS WEEK!  To celebrate, I have a special post in mind for tomorrow.  This isn't a travel date for us, but an important step, so join us in prayers for a smooth appointment and a speedy process from this date forward.

His Impulse Buy

Posted by Angie at 7:00 AM 4 comments
As we all know, I like love shopping for Levi.  Little outfits on sale, baskets for the nursery...it makes this process feel more real to me when I have something for Levi in my cart.

My husband made his first impulse buy for Levi's first birthday: a 12 month superhero shirt, complete with cape.  As he tossed it in the cart, I told him we could get it under one condition: that he take a picture for the blog.  You can see how bad he wanted it...

P.S. Have I pointed out those orange lanterns in the background before?  We got them a couple months ago on sale.  We're adding a little bit of Asia to our house, y'all!

Much love,
Blessed Mama

A waiter named Levi

Posted by Angie at 7:00 AM 2 comments
For Father's Day, I bought my husband a gift card to one of his favorite restaurants: Cracker Barrel.  Usually, Cracker Barrel is a vacation stop for us on long road trips, but since we didn't take any of those this summer, it's been quite a while since we have enjoyed the taste of this place.

After perusing the collection of quirky items in the shop, we were seated at a table.  Our waiter's name?  None other than Levi.  He was funny, kind, handsome, and attentive to all our culinary needs.  Every time he left, my husband and I would whisper and giggle.  How funny that for his Father's Day meal (eaten weeks after that date) we would have a waiter with the same name as our son!

When we said our goodbyes to Levi, he handed us the receipt.  On the back, he had written this:

This was the first time I had ever received a verse written on a receipt.  As soon as we got home we looked up Psalm 43:5.  It reads:

Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Savior and my God.

These words hit me particularly, for all day I had been worrying, wondering, and writing this post on the difficulties of waiting.  Put your hope in God...what comfort I believe it brings...for I will yet praise him...in the easy times and the hard times...my Savior and my God...Amen.

Much love,
Blessed Mama

Missing these ladies

Posted by Angie at 11:34 AM 2 comments
I know little Levi is missing a few of his favorite nursery volunteers right now, who are visiting the States.  Lucky for him, they will be returning to Taiwan soon.  Levi just couldn't hold back his sadness in the last goodbye pictures (he's the little guy in the exact middle)!!

June and July Babies

Posted by Angie at 7:00 AM 0 comments
Happy news!!  Several of Levi's friends are now with their forever families!  In June, "Rocky," now Gabriel, met his parents, who already live in Taiwan.
{all pictures from His Hands Taiwan facebook page}
Then, this past Wednesday, Grace met her parents when they came to Taiwan to pick her up!  Their blog is here, if you want to read about their adoption journey.

Thank you all for the kind words and support on Wednesday's post.  Y'all made me smile so many times and that's exactly what I needed...to remember that one day, this will be us! Have a beautiful weekend everyone!!  We will be attempting to purchase our little "thank you" gifts for the nannies/volunteers at His Hands this weekend, in our quest to keep busy and focus on what's ahead!

Much love,
Blessed Mama

It's hard.

Posted by Angie at 7:30 AM 8 comments
It's so much easier to blog about care packages and nursery updates and matching outfits.  There is so much happiness and hope in adoptions.  But on days like today, in moments like this, the heartache can't help but seep through every now and then.

But the truth is y'all...

...it's hard when a piece of your heart is in an orphanage halfway around the world.

My mother-in-law said a few weeks ago that it's like we're pregnant and the ultrasound pictures are just really, really good.

But it is hard to wait...and wait...without a due date.

We hope to travel this fall.  But honestly, the difference between August or September or October or November has been weighing heavily on me recently.

Last weekend I washed every article of baby clothing we have been given.  I folded them in tiny little piles on the bed.  Little piles organized by size.  Little piles of blue resting lightly on a colorful quilt.  The sweet smell of baby detergent floating through the room.  And as I looked at each tiny pile, I wondered which sizes we would be giving away, because my child will be too big by the time I finally meet him.

It's hard to accept that I will miss (or may have already missed) Levi's first smile.  The first time he sits.  The first time he rolls over.

And I try to remember that there are families still waiting for a picture of their child.  Families still waiting for first court dates.  Families who have no hope of traveling this fall.  Families still waiting and praying for what we already have.  We are so blessed.

But it's still hard when a piece of your heart is in an orphanage halfway around the world, for an undetermined amount of time.

Beautiful words help, like these beautiful words from a post over at In His Hands:

Maybe there are folks out there who look at me and wonder what it's like to not be able to grow your family when you want to. To need tens and tens of thousands of dollars to do it. To wait and wait and wait without a due date. To grasp a photo in your hand and love a baby born across an ocean. To look into almondy eyes and want to do a backflip because being in love with this kid is the best.thing.evah. To be such a perfectly perfect match must be something.

If you're wondering, it is. The best kind of something.

And it is the best kind of something.  To feel those feelings of falling in love all over again.  To study Levi's deep brown eyes, little wisps of hair, ten little toes.  We are so blessed.  I'm just ready to be the person holding him.

One of Levi's loving caretakers, who we are so appreciative for.  We know he is in wonderful hands.
Much love,
Blessed Mama

Three Musketeers!

Posted by Angie at 7:00 AM 1 comments
There are only three little boys at His Hands right now...check out these three little cuties!! (Levi is the one on the far right...the baby of the group)

Just look at those little toes!  I can already see these three running around causing mischief at future reunions.

First Care Package

Posted by Angie at 7:00 AM 0 comments
Yesterday morning I put our 2nd care package to Levi in the mail...and then I realized...I never blogged about the first care package!  This post is a bit delayed, considering we mailed this package the day after we got our referral back in May, but the pictures are just too cute not to share.  Once we found out about our darling son, we wanted to be sure he had something special right away.  With the help of his "MaMere" (my mother), we put this in the mail to him.

As much as I love cute little pictures of baby clothes...I love these pictures more!

Another adoptive mother sent us this picture of her little girl because she noticed Levi's crib was in the background.  It's comforting to know that when he goes to bed each night, he can stare at the puppy dog bib we mailed him.

Right now, flying through the world is our second (and hopefully last!) care package to Levi, filled with goodies from many different family members.  I've got some cute pictures of what's inside, but I'll hold off on posting them, just in case we get some shots of him in the outfits.  Boy do we love our little boy.

Much love,
Blessed Mama

In Hand-Me-Down Heaven

Posted by Angie at 7:00 AM 2 comments
It's beginning to look a lot like

WE ARE HAVING A BABY

thanks to a sweet mama at church who gave us lots of her old baby items!  THANK YOU!  Just look at our living room now...

Do you see what I see?

This mama also spoiled us with LOTS of clothing her little boys have outgrown!

Some of my favorites...love little overalls!

And this one even says his name, ha!

We are in hand-me-down heaven right now.

Much love,
Blessed Mama
