Future Papa and I would love to learn to speak Chinese. At the very least, we need to have some phrases and sentences memorized before we travel! After an afternoon of research, we found this wonderful website for learning languages.
FSI (Foreign Service Institute) language courses are all free and comprehensive, with both audio files and workbook pages. There are dozens of languages on there, if you are interested! For us, this seems like a great place to start.
And we are excited to get started! Something to keep us busy as we wait on the referral. Will it be today? Tomorrow? Next week? EEEEEK!
Anyone else out there have success learning another language? Any tips? I took years of Spanish as an undergrad and have very little to show from it, unfortunately...
Much love,
Future Mama

What a great resource! Thanks!!! We also are wanting to learn as much as possible. We have Rosetta Stone (getting ready to start it) and have several fun game type apps on our phone to learn numbers etc. We are really blessed...our next door neighbors are native Mandarin speakers who are raising their little girl to be bilingual!
Something I've come across in homeschooling is www.betterchinese.com From reviews I've seen it is a really good way to learn chinese for children. And the added bonus is that it is a curriculum with vibrant children's books written in chinese...so as your little one grows up they can have those books around to learn Chinese too... just wanted to pass that along in case you want to have something for your child someday.

You can buy a little handbook and CD with phrases and words that are specifically made for adoptive families. We purchased one in Spanish (even though I do speak "survival Spanish" - just enough to get by in another country!) when we adopted our son from Guatemala. I can't remember the exact title but I recently linked to it from Amazon.com for another friend who adopted a little boy from Taiwan. Very helpful!
That is great Sarah!!! Good luck!
So helpful Jess! Thank you!!!
Thanks for the tip Heather! I will have to check it out ;-)
