I would like an adorable baby with a side of boogers, messy diapers, and sleepless nights, please.

Posted by Angie at 7:31 PM
Hello world!  We are excited to announce that...
WE'RE EXPECTING!!!

WOOOOOO HOOOO! Happy Dance!

But wait.
Before you run off to buy me maternity jeans and start limiting my caffeine intake, you should probably know that I'm not pregnant.

We are adopting.  A wee little one.  Our first child.  And we couldn't be more excited.

Oh are we ready to be parents!  It's been years in the making and will be year(s) until it's officially official, but we are happy to announce that we are officially beginning the process.  And we would love for you to come along!  We are ready for a world of bedtime stories, baths, bubbles.  Cookies, cuddles, cooing.  Dancing, dozing, and (potentially!) dresses.  Yes please!

Boogers, boo-boos, bugs?  Crying, chasing?  Diapers?  Well, I guess we'll take that too :-)

Welcome to our blog!  I, Future Mama, will be filling it with pictures, jokes, questions, old music videos, hopes, and countless pictures of all things baby related.  I'm decorating the nursery in my head, forcing myself not to buy little onesies just yet, and exploring the world of agencies, countries, and paperwork.

Here's the deal.  We have FIVE months until it's go time.  Signing with an agency.  Nailing down our country of choice.  That's May 2011.  Why May?  Well, we have a lot to do!  Just look at this to-do list!
  • Prayerfully decide officially on a country (we are leaning towards one, but aren't positive just yet)
  • Pick the perfect agency for us
  • Figure out fun and creative ways to announce our "paper pregnancy" to family and friends (that's right, they don't know yet, just you!  that's how special you are)
  • Save, save, save money to pay for upfront costs...like our homestudy, agency application fees, etc.
  • Get all the advice we can from other mamas who adopted
  • Get all the advice we can from just plain mamas about being parents!
  • Plus...there's the little tiny fact that I am writing my MA thesis right now, due on May 3rd.
Oooooooh I'm excited!  First post, eeek!  How am I doing?  Alright, now I am off to go beg all the fabulous mamas whose blogs I've been secretly reading for months to subscribe to my blog!  We are going to need all the advice and prayers we can get.  Five months!  Ready......go!

Be back in a week!  Enjoy reading through my tabs until then!  Gotta go rally some readers ;-)

Much love,
Future Mama

I did post a comment but lost it.
Thanks for your kind words, and visiting my blog.

Here's my email bdedunn@att.net or FB me.. there's quite few families on FB that have adopted babies/children from Taiwan that could be very helpful to you. How exciting for you and your husband, it's an amazing journey!

Sincerely,
Debbie Dunn

You already know that we have a little one from Taiwan and used AGCI. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask away! wallsnat(at)gmail.com
We loved AGCI, they were helpful and do so much for orphan care around the world, not just in Taiwan. Excited for you as you prayfully begin your journey!

Here's a FB page with families that's growing by the day. It was recently launched a few days for a HUGE family reunion in August for children/families that are adopted from Taiwan. FB this page to join:
Taiwan ROCks

I did quickly browsed your blog.. very cute! You mention starting your HS in May. Gentle advise,, start it tomorrow!! LOL Seriously, it may or can take until May to complete your HS, and then you'll have the long wait for a referral (which depends on orphanage and agency), and bigger the agency doesn't mean quicker at all:) It's all about relationships between the orphanage and agencies in Taiwan. It a VERY respectful, gentle and kind country. And ask tons questions to your agency, if you need help on "what" those questions should be, not the obvious questions, I will be glad to help you. Research (google) orphanages in Taiwan to learn their process and their policies, they're not all the same, which plays a key role on how quickly your adoption will go..

There are many of us moms out there that are BTDT and happy to offer advice, so never hesitate to ask, the more info you have by all means the better(hopefully) your journey will go. It is certainly paved....with a few bumps ahead.

How exciting and congrats, you have absolutely no idea the joy this journey will bring to you an dyour husband!!!

Nice to meet you, and congratulations on starting your adoption journey! I love to meet fellow adoptive parents, especially those adopting from Taiwan, (since there are relatively few of us compared to most other countries.) I'm more than happy to help in any way I can. You can email me at verbeach@msn.com, or on Facebook (April Chism.) We adopted from The Home of God's Love in Luodong, but their waiting list is currently closed. I know a lot of families who have babies from St. Lucy's (I think in Taichung?) I'll be praying for you! I can't wait to read some updates!

I was literally just lamenting that I am a little bit removed from the world of adoption processes and referrals and gotcha days!
That time in our life was nothing short of miraculous! It was amazing. I still look at others in the throes of adoption and have a bit of longing to get to experience that wonder all over again! I am thrilled for you as you embark on what will be the most precious experience of your life!!!!! Can't wait to read more!

Hi,

Thanks so much for the kind words and for stopping by "our bloggy place". :)

What a fabulous start you have made here ~ I love your evident enthusiasm!

I can share that with both of our journeys there were abundant surprises, joys, struggles and ultimately tremendous blessings. Each one was so different, yet both brought us to our miracle children.

I am forever thankful and humbled to be their Mama!

I wish the same kind of amazing journey to find you and I absolutely will be peeking in to follow along!

Thanks for stopping by on our blog :-) Welcome to the rollercoaster ride of a lifetime! The agency we went through is closed :-( But we went through TWCA in Taichung, Taiwan - I know there are still a couple agencies working with them. Good luck, we'll be anxiously awaiting the arrival of your little one!

Thanks for visiting our blog :) It's always nice to meet other adoptive families...especially since we're on that journey again for the 2nd time! I look forward to following this amazing God-loving process with your family. Congratulations on your "pregnancy". We deserve the weight gain, cravings & mood swings just as much as any other "pregnant" woman!
Many blessings!

Congratulations on choosing to adopt! It is not a journey for the faint of heart, but you seem to already know that. But it is the most rewarding journey that one can embark upon. Looking forward to watching your journey unfold!

If you need any help, have any questions, please feel free to contact me. We've been through it twice and cannot say enough good things about it. My girls are more amazing than I could ever have imagined - truly.

Best wishes, Melissa

Thanks for stopping over at our blog, and I'm glad to have found yours! This post is great! You are completely right...this is such a roller coaster ride. And the online adoptive community is fabulous. We've received so much info and support from APs and adoptees. Having this network makes all the difference. Best of luck!

Congratulations on your decision to adopt! My advice- don't wait until May, start now. The wait for infants is getting longer by the day!

Congrats on your decision to adopt! We just came home from Ethiopia with our Macy 8 WEEKS AGO, and it's AWWWWWESOME!
To keep up with the paperwork you are about to start DROWNING in, I'd suggest you get one of those big expandable file folders. Get a good one - not a cardboard one. (I learned that from experience.) Then title the tabs: reference letters, background checks, dr. reports, items completed for dossier, items to be notarized, etc. Also keeps some tabs back in the back for topics like: things to pack for travel, questions to ask birthfamily/nannies, bonding/attatchment ideas, etc. It worked for me! Good luck!!!!

Oh I used to love roller coasters. Alas I now suffer from Vertigo so they are no longer an option. :(

I had folders in a built in filing cabinet and then went to a bog expandable flie folder for the actual trip. Be organized...the paperwork is the hardest part....but it is all so worth it. I will pray for y'all.

Congratulations as you begin the most amazing journey! :) We are in the process of adopting from Ethiopia! I would definitely agree with the poster about the expandable file folder. The paperwork is crazy. I also keep a notebook separated into different sections ("Books to read," "quotes and verses," etc) by the computer so when I'm reading all of the blogs and find good info or stuff I want to remember it is right there!

You are too funny :) Prayers and best wishes that your request of boogers, diapers and sleepless nights is met very soon. Don't forget to request parasites and all that comes with it...that's the best part! :) Jennifer
